| Recalling the textbook recommendation to aim for about ten classes for both frequency distributions and graphs, you might prefer a bin width of about 1/3 of a minute because it yields roughly ten bins. Do avoid small bin widths that produce a series of irregular spikes, and also avoid large bin widths that mask the potentially important bimodality of the data (possibly reflecting two distinctly different types of eruptions). |
